3 April: 13 Arsenal anniversaries in one day

Each day of the year, except when I’m away, the Arsenal History Society publishes the Arsenal anniversaries for that day.

But actually we do more than that, because each day we add about another ten anniversaries to the file – and now have over 3000 of them recorded.

Today we include famous names like David Jack, Tom Parker and Alf Common, famous events, like the first player reaching 100 games for Woolwich Arsenal, and famous moments such as this day in 1953 and 1971 – two years in which Arsenal won the league.

3 Aprl 1897:  Gavin Crawford was first player to play 100 league games for Woolwich Arsenal

3 April 1899:  David Jack born

3 April 1909.  Arsenal 0 Chelsea 0.  Arsenal’s second home league game v Chelsea.  Both ended 0-0 with attendances of 30,000

3 April 1915: Last game for Thomas Winship

3 April 1926: Tom Parker’s first game.

3 April 1948: Arsenal 2 Blackburn 0.  And also here

3 April 1953: Chelsea 1 Arsenal 1 making it six without a win.  Arsenal play 8 games in April including 5 straight wins, and win the league.

3 April 1966: Remi Garde born.  See also here

3 April 1971: 62087 – highest of the season – watch Arsenal 2 Chelsea 0  Starting the run of 10 games in one month.

3 April 1983: Jimmy Bloomfield died.

3 April 1991: Arsenal 5 Aston Villa 0.  David Platt took over in goal with Nigel Spink injured.  Hence the score.

3 April 2008: Almunia signs contract extension.
