Making the Arsenal to be published in October 2009

Making the Arsenal – the Arsenal diary of 1910 – will be published in October this year.  Full details of how you can buy it will appear closer to the time.

1910 was the definitive year for Arsenal.  Woolwich Arsenal were bankrupt and desparately needing someone to take them over.

To the rescue came Henry Norris – the owner of Fulham FC.  His plan was simple – to merge Fulham and Woolwich Arsenal.  When this was turned down he came up with a second plan – to play Woolwich Arsenal games at Craven Cottage on alternate saturdays.

In fact neither plan came to  fruition, but it was Norris who moved Arsenal to Highbury, who took the club up to the first division, and who built the modern Arsenal.

“Making the Arsenal” is a novel based on the 1910 diary of Daily Chronicle journalist who stumbles across not just the Woolwich Arsenal story, but also something very strange happening within government.  As the miners strike, the Suffragettes riot, and football grounds crumble, the government seems to be planning something so outrageous that even the journalists can’t believe it.

There has only ever been one novel about Arsenal before – the famous Arsenal Stadium Mystery.  This is the second novel based around the club.

Extracts from the book, and purchasing details will appear here shortly.
